More than wine infused with the earth’s gemstones Pietri Cellars wines are a powerful union of soil, sun and micro-climates, vineyards, varietals and rare clones from all over the world.

While many worthy wineries make wine from established estates, Pietri Cellars enjoys the adventure of sourcing fruit from a plethora of vineyards.  Some we’ve harvested over many years, like the biodynamic vineyard of our prized Viognier. Others we discover vintage to vintage to produce exciting new wines. This is the adventure of Artisan Wines!

Here are stories of some of our favorite vineyards:

Chequera Vineyard – Westside Paso Robles, was planted 35  years ago from suitcase clones smuggled in from France by a noted winemaker.  This biodynamic Viognier became four vintages of our Archangel and two of our Telos and one Isla,  all wines of distinction, Telos, a silver medal winner. The berries of this Viognier are slightly larger than most and deliver big stone and tropical fruit notes.  Chequera means checkbook in Spanish.

Cira Vineyard –  Forty acres on Paso Robles’ hot and sunny eastside growing Syrah, Petite Syrah, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. All organic and hand tended by grower Fred Esposito these lucious and earthy grapes can be found in Om, Obsidian and a new straight Petite Verdot to be released summer of 2012.

Terra Bella – Adeliada AVA is rolling oak lined hills about ten miles from the sea that enjoy micro climates of sun, shade and coastal fog that produce complex grapes with  many nuances.  Terra Bella occupies one of these idyllic hills growing the rich Syrah Noir in our classic Sangreal and Om 07.

Herringer Estates – Clarksburg, California is part of the Sacramento River Delta, boasting rich loamy soil. Different from the lime calcareous terrior of Paso Robles, this region produces Petite Syrah that wafts delicate floral notes inside a rich earthiness.  A lovely layer inside our Om and Obsidian 06, sustainably farmed.

Coyote Moon – Clone  336 Cabernet Sauvignon, organically farmed on the Westside of Paso Robles became the blueberry jam inside the Sangreal 07.

Wasserman – If you stay open the universe will reveal its hidden treasures.. Each vintage we seem to discover a new vineyard filled potential.  In 2009 we discovered an old Paso Robles Estate, Wasserman, certified organic for thirty years.  Our 2009 single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon will be released in Fall 2012. Well worth the wait.

Hastings –   We’ve produced two vintages of  Estrella Clone Syrah off this Adelaida estate vineyard that offers structured elegance and some lovely violet flowers on top.  Soon to be released as our Ruby Slippers. Farmed sustainably.

Rosewynn –  Named in honor of the owner’s deceased daughter, this tiny Petite Syrah vineyard in San Miguel is farmed organically and offers dark and peppery notes to our Obsidian 07.
